Vedic Astrology, or Jyotish, is an ancient Indian system that uses a sidereal zodiac, meaning it calculates planetary positions based on fixed constellations rather than the moving zodiac used in Western astrology. This approach requires accurate data such as birth date, time, and place to create a personalized birth chart (Kundli) that reflects one’s life path, karmic influences, and cosmic potential. The sidereal method focuses heavily on the moon sign rather than the sun sign, as it is believed to more accurately reflect emotional patterns, mental states, and daily experiences.

Western astrology, by contrast, uses the tropical zodiac, which is based on the seasons and aligns with the spring equinox. Its primary focus on the sun sign makes it more relatable to personality traits and external behaviors rather than the emotional and spiritual depth provided by the moon. Furthermore, Vedic astrology incorporates a rich system of lunar mansions called Nakshatras, Dasha cycles, and yogas (planetary combinations) that offer nuanced predictions and remedies, which Western astrology does not.
