This is Day 8 of my Autumn Energy Reset series, where we walk through all nine days of Sharad Navratri together, one goddess and one chakra at a time. Missed Day 7? Read it here. New here? Start with the big picture in my main Autumn Energy Reset blog.
Take a deep breath with me, because Day 8 feels like one long, soft exhale. Yesterday you faced your fears and let the darkness fade. Today the air feels clean and quiet, and there is room for peace to settle in. This is the day to wash away what no longer belongs to you, so let’s meet the goddess who makes it feel so easy.
Meet Goddess Mahagauri: The Radiant Pure One
Day 8 belongs to Goddess Mahagauri, the eighth form of Navadurga. Her name is a lovely one. Maha means great, and Gauri means fair and radiant, so she is the goddess of great, glowing purity.
Her story begins with a long journey. Goddess Parvati wanted Lord Shiva as her husband, and she spent many years in deep prayer to win his heart. She endured sun, rain, and cold with unshakable faith, and her body became dark and covered in dust from all those years in the forest. When Lord Shiva finally appeared, he was touched by her devotion. He poured the holy water of the Ganga over her, and the dust washed away. She emerged shining as white as the moon, a conch shell, and a jasmine flower. That is how she became Mahagauri.
Her form is calm and serene. She wears pure white clothes, and she rides a white bull. She has four arms. In one hand she holds a trident, and in another she holds a small drum called a damaru. Her other two hands rest in gestures of blessing and fearlessness. Everything about her feels gentle, steady, and bright.
Picture the first shower of rain after a long, dusty day. The leaves sparkle, the air smells fresh, and the whole world looks brand new. That is the gift Mahagauri brings you today. She teaches us that no matter how tired or worn out we feel, a little love and patience can make us shine again.
Purity at the Crown
Today Mahagauri connects with the Crown Chakra, called Sahasrara, in its energy of purification.
This chakra sits at the top of your head, and it holds your peace, your higher awareness, and your sense of oneness with life. When it glows, your mind feels clear, quiet, and light.
In Vedic astrology, the Crown Chakra links with Jupiter. Jupiter is the planet of wisdom, faith, blessings, and generosity. A strong Jupiter helps you forgive, trust, and see the good that is already around you. So when Mahagauri blesses your crown, she also opens the door to forgiveness and gives you the wisdom to let old hurt go.
Yesterday Kalaratri cleared away your fear. Today Mahagauri washes the mind clean, so you can step into tomorrow with a fresh start.
How Day 8 Fits Into the Crown Chakra Journey
Yesterday, Kalaratri cleared your fear, which is the first step in opening the Crown Chakra. Today, Mahagauri continues that work through purification. An open crown needs a clear, calm mind, and old hurt, guilt, and worry can cloud it. When you forgive and let go, your awareness feels lighter, and your inner peace grows. That is why this day stays with the crown.
Tomorrow, Siddhidatri completes the cycle with fulfillment.
Crown Chakra Cleansing Practices for Day 8
These practices are soft, soothing, and refreshing, just like the goddess herself. Pick the ones that appeal to you, or blend a few into a calm evening ritual. Take your time, and if something feels uncomfortable, pause and return to your natural breathing.
Wash with intention
As you wash your face and hands, or take a shower, imagine the water carrying away tiredness, worry, and old feelings. Let each drop wash away something you are ready to release. Finish with a deep breath and a thankful smile.
Write a forgiveness letter
Sit down with a notebook and write a letter to someone you need to forgive, and do not plan to send it. You can also write to yourself. Say everything honestly, and end with the words “I let this go.” Then close the notebook and take a slow breath.
Breathe in white light
Sit comfortably and close your eyes. Imagine a soft, pure white light glowing above your head, like the moon on a clear night. With each breath in, let it flow down through your body, and with each breath out, feel it carrying away anything heavy. Continue for 2 to 5 minutes.
Hum for peace
Take a deep breath and chant “Om Shanti” softly, which means peace. Let the sound flow gently through your whole head and chest, and repeat it for a few minutes. Enjoy the quiet that follows.
Say your affirmation
Place your hands over your heart and say, “I forgive and I let go. I am calm and pure.” Say it slowly, and feel the words settle into your body.
Clear one small space
Outer calm helps inner calm, so tidy one small spot at home, like your desk, your bedside table, or your prayer corner. Give away or throw out one thing you no longer need. Notice how much lighter the room feels.
Add a touch of white
Mahagauri loves white, so wear something white today, or place white flowers near your prayer space. Simple touches like these can make the day feel peaceful and special.
Keep your meals light and gentle
Choose soft, simple foods today, like warm milk, rice, coconut, or ripe bananas. If you are fasting for Navratri, keep your food light and sattvic, and follow what suits your tradition and your body.
Keep the Glow
You can return to these practices any day of Navratri, or any time you need a fresh start. If your family observes Kanya Pujan on Ashtami, take part with a warm and grateful heart. Mahagauri’s lesson is simple to keep close. Let go of what weighs you down, and your natural glow will come back.
The Divine Mantra
Take a quiet moment this morning or evening, and light a small lamp if you like. Sit comfortably, close your eyes, and let your shoulders soften. Then honor Goddess Mahagauri by chanting or listening to her mantra three times, or as many times as feels right, with a grateful heart.
Om Devi Mahagauryai Namah
Feel the sound flowing from the top of your head down through your body, washing away tension and leaving a feeling of gentle peace. Rest for a moment and enjoy the stillness.
Tomorrow, Day 9
Your mind is clean and calm, so now we get ready to celebrate everything you have built! Tomorrow we meet Goddess Siddhidatri, who grants wisdom, fulfillment, and spiritual gifts. She also connects with the Crown Chakra, and she belongs to Jupiter in Vedic astrology. See you on Day 9!
